When thinking about a business in terms of operational growth, managers must consider what their cost structure looks like in order to make those necessary business decisions that they get paid the big bucks to make. In doing so, managers must decide on which cost structure to use – high variable costs and low fixed costs, or the opposite? In today’s modern marketplace each approach has its advantages and disadvantages. However, without knowing the future, it is not obvious which cost structure is better. A company with higher fixed costs and lower variable costs will experience wider swings in net operating income as sales fluctuate, with greater profits in good years and greater losses in bad years. On the other side of the coin, a company with lower fixed costs and higher variable costs, will enjoy greater profit stability and will be more protected from losses during bad years, but ultimately at the cost of lower net operating income in good years.

As a manager, I am constantly evaluating the cost structure of OC Creative Media, Inc. I have found that by smoothly blending the right amount of fixed and variable costs, I am able to prevent the company from experiencing losses while being in the right position to enjoy BIG profits!

Synopsis : The pain of the past becomes the reality of the present on the morning of September 12th, 2001 for second-generation Japanese-American George Kojima. Witnessing a government backlash to 9/11 that parallels his own experiences during the Second World War as a young man, George must question his trust and faith in the United States which he has spent his life fighting to preserve. “Infamy” explores our responses during times of national crisis, and forces us to re-evaluate what it means to protect “freedom and justice for all
